Types of ADAS Sensors
Smile ADAS Solutions
ACC Adaptive Cruise Control.
Normally a radar sensor located in the front bumper, this sensor adjusts the vehicles speed to maintain a set distance from the vehicle in front.
On some vehicles the driver can set the distance. Any damage to the front bumper may cause a fault with the sensor.
If the bumper is removed for accident damage work the sensor will require re-calibration.
AVM Around View Monitoring.
This provides the driver with 360 Degree birds eye view, designed to help the driver park more easily. This is normally a camera-based system with multiple cameras.
RCW Rear Collision Warning
Warns the driver of vehicles that are close to the rear of the vehicle. Normally radar sensors at the rear of the vehicle behind bumper.
LDW Lane Departure Warning
Warns the driver when the vehicle drifts out of their lane. May also affect the steering if the indicators are not used when changing lane, giving the driver a physical warning when crossing a white line in the road.
APA Automated Parking Assistance.
Automatically parks the vehicle at low speed. Several sensors on different part of the vehicle.
LIDAR Light Imaging Detection
Used to create a 3D image of the vehicle surroundings.
NVS Night Vision System
Assists with the driver’s vision at night or in poor vision. A thermographic camera detects hot spots generated by people, animals, or other vehicles.
BSD Blind Spot Detection
Detects and warns driver of vehicles in their blind spot, the two rear corners of their vehicle. Sensors can be in the rear bumper or camera based in the driver and passenger door mirrors. Normally an orange light will appear in the side mirror if a vehicle is detected to warn the driver.
PD Pedestrian Detection
Warns the driver of pedestrians in front of their vehicle. May give a physical or audible warning or could operate the brakes of the vehicle.
TSR Traffic Sign Recognition
Normally a front facing camera will read road signs, speed limit signs for instance then display the speed limit on the instrument cluster, warning the driver when they exceed the speed limit.
On most occasions these sensors will require calibration if they are worked on, for instance when a bumper is removed or a new windscreen is installed. Any change to the wheel alignment, suspension repairs. Please also be aware this technology may be linked to several other systems on the vehicle including seat belt tensioners etc, so a fault on the dashboard may not be a sensor fault.

Coding New Sensors
Smile ADAS Solutions
On occasions it is necessary to install new sensors in the event of damage due to an accident etc. In these situations, the sensor or camera may need coding, dealer software will normally be required to undertake this process. We can undertake
this process on site.
Other items on vehicles that may require coding when replaced include headlights, steering racks, parking sensors and many others. We can cater for most need, we are continually investing in new equipment and software updates
